Excursion Heart of Montenegro + Cable car

Sightseeing tour, which must be visited is the "Heart of Montenegro" (Montenegro Tour + Boka Kotor Bay + Cable car). Here you will get acquainted with the deep history and Montenegrin traditions of our region. You will visit the ancient capital Cetina, Cetina Monastery and visit the village of Njegusi with a tasting of Pršut and homemade cheese. Let's rise to a height of 1000 meters above the sea to admire Boka Kotor Bay from a bird's eye view and of course take a walk with guide through the medieval city Kotor - the pearl of the Adriatic! And at the end of the trip we will visit the city of seafarers Perast with island of the Virgin on the Reef with a unique maritime museum!

The bus will be sent from Tivat, Kotor, Sutomore, Buljarica, Chan towards Budva. It will pass through such resorts as Lastva Grbaljska, Jaz beach, Petrovac, Sveti Stefan, Przno, Rafailovici and Becici. Literally within half an hour he will pick up all the tourists from the stops of these cities and go on an excursion. You will be able to take the best seats and admire the coastal strip and cities of Montenegro. Don't forget to take warm clothes: the air temperature on the coast and in the mountains can differ significantly. Comfortable shoes and some clothing to cover your shoulders and legs, as you will be visiting a monastery. This route runs along high-altitude but safe roads, from which stunning views of Montenegro and the Bay of Kotor open.

Program and description of the excursion The Heart of Montenegro

The first stop will be at the observation deck - 850 meters on Mount Braichi, from which a magnificent panorama of the Budva Riviera opens, coast of Montenegro, the sea and the island of St. Nicholas!

    Будванская ривьера Будванская ривьера

Then the path will continue to the old capital - Cetina.

    Цетинье Цетинье

On an excursion to Cetinje, you will get acquainted with the history of the city, which dates back to the 15th century c.

    Цетине Цетине

You will be pleasantly surprised by the huge number of attractions: King Nikola's Palace, the Blue Palace, the State Museum, the Vlach Church of the 15th century with a fence of 1544 gun barrels and many more interesting things. Visiting museums (optional).

    Цетине Цетине

After a walk with a guide, we will visit Cetina Monastery. It is rich in history and preserves the Hand of St. John the Baptist - three fingers of the right hand, who baptized Jesus Christ. A piece of the life-giving cross of the Lord on which Jesus Christ was crucified and the relics of Peter of Cetinje - the founder of the Cetinje monastery. Believers take turns approaching the shrine with the relics and venerate (if you wish, you may not venerate).

    Цетинский монастырь Цетинский монастырь

If you have crosses on your body and everything you purchase in the monastery shop, be sure to consecrate it on the holy relics by venerating them. As on the excursion in Ostrog, here you can also light candles and write notes for your health and peace. The Cetinje Monastery is the center of the Montenegrin metropolis for the entire Serbian-Montenegrin Orthodoxy.

    Цетинский монастырь Цетинский монастырь

After a long stop in Cetinje, the bus (minibus) will travel 22 km along the unusually beautiful places, which have been given the name “Stone Sea of Montenegro”. Let's rise even higher to the mountain Lovćen, at the foot of which is the ancient mountain village Njeguši - the birthplace of the Petrovich dynasty, who once ruled in these parts. The village of Njegusi is known for its natural, organic delicacies, such as prosciutto - cured pork ham, homemade cheese and the unique mead with rakia. Well, if you like it, then you can take a couple of legs with you to your homeland (it is allowed to export Prosciutto, cheese and Rakia up to 1.5 liters per person).

    Негуши Негуши

This is how interesting it is to dry and slightly spoil prosciutto - the national treasure of the country :)). A stop in the village is expected to purchase local specialties (you can try them), souvenirs, and also have a separate time for lunch. Advice from experienced people: - buy prosciutto or cheese exactly the one they give you to try, if of course you like it, since another prosciutto may be completely different.

    Негуши пршут Негуши

Having tasted hearty national Montenegrin dishes, we continue our excursion to a unique serpentine road with 25 turns, called the “stairs” Cattaro” due to the steepness of the climb.

Дорога Котор Ловчен Дорога Котор Ловчен

It was built by the Austrians, running to the Boka Bay of Kotor and the city of Kotor. Beautiful panoramas will open from this place.

We will arrive at the observation deck, which offers stunning panoramic views - a great opportunity to take vivid photographs and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.

Then we will transfer to the cable car cabin and begin the descent, during which you will be accompanied by breathtaking views from above.

Characteristics of the cable car roads:

    • Elevation difference: 1,316 meters

    • Route length: 3,900 meters

    • Trip duration: 11 minutes

    • Maximum speed: 6 m/s

    • Number of booths: 48

    • Capacity: up to 1,200 passengers per hour

    • Capacity of one cabin: up to 10 people

The price of the excursion includes one ascent (descent) by cable car.

Attention: During May, the ascent to Mount Lovcen by cable car will not be included in the excursion program. This is due to the fact that at the beginning of the season (May) the tourist flow on the coast of Montenegro is small, and the cable car may temporarily not function due to an insufficient number of visitors. Instead, it is planned to climb Mount Lovcen by minibus/bus along a picturesque serpentine road with panoramic views of the Bay of Kotor. In this regard, the cost of excursions in May has been reduced. When booking your seats, the site will automatically calculate the cost in your Cart when you select the date of the excursion.

After descending to sea level, a walking tour of the city awaits. Kotor is a real treasury of medieval history and culture. Walking through the intricate labyrinth of the city, along the most hidden streets, you will see places that are not shown on regular excursions. See the chambers of aristocratic families, hear the story of Saint Tryphon - the patron saint of the city and see Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (1166) - the oldest operating temple of the Eastern Adriatic, as well as the unique 12th century church of the saint Luke - one of the apostles of Jesus Christ, which has survived to this day!

    Бока Которская бухта Котор

From the pierKotorwe will head along the coast of the Boka Kotor Bay past the coastal villages, admiring the scenery and in about 40 minutes one of the oldest cities in Montenegro awaits us Perast - city of sailors and captains. By order of Peter I, it was ordered to build a naval school here for the children of our Russian nobles. He sent his subjects here to learn maritime skills from the Montenegrins. And the school was eventually headed by the great navigator Marko Martinovich, who glorified this place. Thanks to the Montenegrins, 633 ships were built in St. Petersburg and only 37 on their own.

    Пераст Пераст

The town is not large, but it has become a favorite place for all tourists. It is rich in museums, churches, monuments and palaces. Today it represents one of the most beautiful examples of Baroque architecture on the shores of the Adriatic. In the Middle Ages, navigation and fishing were very developed. More than three hundred buildings - these are real palaces - were built on the shore and hillsides with income from maritime trade and customs privileges. Military campaigns against pirates also brought considerable income - the wealth gained in battles helped decorate the city.

And very close are two islands: Sveti Georgia (St. George, also known as the Island of the Dead with cypress trees) and Gospa od Shkrpela (Island of the Blessed Virgin Mary or, as they also call it, Our Lady on the Reef), which is the patroness of all sailors and captains. In Perast we will board a boat and sail to the islands.

    Бока бухта остров Святого Георгия

This is a unique place built by human hands back in 1452. During the excursion, our guides will tell you an unusual story about the formation of this island. Its area is 3030 m2, we will visit with you a Catholic church with an unusual altar made of four types of marble: yellow, brown, white and gray-green - this particular Greek subspecies of marble no longer exists in the world. Previously, 20 kg of silver were given for 1 kg of marble.

A functioning organ that is over 300 years old and a Murano glass chandelier (150 years old). And later we will go up to the second floor of the church to the maritime museum with various archaeological finds and gifts from seafarers!

    Excursion details

The excursion takes place only with a Russian-speaking, experienced, licensed guide! We return around 18.00 pm. This excursion is not strenuous and is ideal for families with children, lovers of history and seascapes. Good reviews and recommendations from tourists about visiting this route.

Excursions in Montenegro start from the bus stops indicated when booking. Due to the dense, chaotic development on the coast and mountainous terrain, buses cannot travel to every hotel or villa, so tourists go to certain places. When booking, please select the stop closest to your accommodation.

Arrival times at attractions, duration of stops and return are approximate. This may be earlier than indicated on the website, or 3-4 hours late. Be sure to read the “Tourist Memo”, which will be sent to you by e-mail along with the voucher.

At technical stops, Montenegrins sell various homemade specialties (honey, wine, rakia...) - our advice: what you tried and liked, buy it, as it happens that they sell/get the wrong product that you liked during tasting.

ATTENTION:In the summer season of 2026, the Excursion Heart of Montenegro + Kotor Cable Car will be carried out in the opposite direction of the route: Kotor - Perast - Island of the Holy Virgin - Cable Car - Panorama - Njegushi - Cetinje - Cetinje Monastery - Budva Riviera. (In rare cases - in the usual direction of the route, for example at the beginning or end of the tourist season).
