Train Tour to Moraca Canyon and Biogradsko Lake, Montenegro

This excursion can be taken from Budva, Becici, Rafailovici, Przno, Sveti Stefana, Petrovac, Buljarica, Canj, Sutomore, Shushan and Bar. The bus will also be able to pick up tourists who live in Boka Kotor Bay - from Tivat and Kotor, thereby admiring almost the entire coast of Montenegro on the way and recognizing its resorts.

Description and route of the excursion "Moraca Canyon and Biograd Lake in Montenegro by train"

The tour will start around 07:00 in the morning. A comfortable train awaits us in Bar, which we will transfer to at around 9 am. From the city of Bar we continue our journey by train, setting off on an exciting journey through the picturesque mountainous regions of Montenegro towards the national park Skadar Lake- the largest lake in the Balkans. At the beginning of the route, an impressive passage awaits us through the longest tunnel in the country - Sozina, with a length of 6.2 km. Next, the train passes by the colorful fishing village of Virpazar, and also crosses a unique bridge built in 1952, which is still used for both trains and cars. As we approach the lake, we notice monuments of the rich historical past of Montenegro - ancient temples, monasteries, fortresses and villages surrounded by greenery.

The path continues through the green expanses of the fertile Zeta Plain, after which we enter the capital of Montenegro - Podgorica.

From there the route heads north, towards the mountainous regions of the country.

Then our train follows along the picturesque valley of the Moraca River, passing vineyards and delving into a grandiose gorge. As we move, we slowly rise upward - from 12 meters above sea level in Bar to more than 1000 meters in the mountainous Kolasin.

One of the most exciting moments of the route will be crossing the Mala Rijeka Bridge - the highest railway bridge in Europe, which rises to 201 meters and amazes with its panoramic views.

The way offers breathtaking views of the Canyon of the Moraca River - one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Montenegro.

About 11:20 we arrive in the picturesque mountain town of Kolasin - a ski resort in Montenegro. Here our railway part of the journey ends and we change to a bus to continue our route towards the Biogradska Gora National Park - one of the oldest forests in Europe and the pearl of Montenegro’s natural heritage.

At 12:00 we begin our walk at the enchanting Lake Biograd, a crystal clear glacial lake surrounded by virgin forest, one of the few remaining in Europe. Until 13:30 we will have enough time to relax, take bright photographs, feel harmony with nature and, if desired, walk along the path (about 3.2 km) around the lake, enjoying the silence and picturesque landscapes of the national park.

After a leisurely walk by the lake, we will have lunch in one of the atmospheric restaurants not far from the Moraca River canyon. Here you can relax, try local cuisine and enjoy views of the picturesque mountain landscapes.

Then our route will continue to the observation deck of one of the most impressive natural sites - the Moraca River Canyon. We will make a stop in its most picturesque and deepest part to admire the stunning scenery, breathe in the mountain air and take vivid photographs as a souvenir.

Moving along a narrow mountain road, we will find ourselves in the very heart of the canyon, between steep cliffs. The opposite shore is very close - only 30-50 meters away, creating a feeling of enclosed space. A narrow strip of sky high overhead is barely visible between the rocks, reflected in the emerald water of the fast and noisy river below. This part of the path is especially impressive with its wildness and natural power.

Usually we are used to the sky extending above the earth, but here everything seems upside down. The majestic sheer walls of the canyon, rising almost vertically, seem to compress the space, leaving only a narrow strip of sky. These steep cliffs make you take a fresh look at the power and grandeur of nature - alive and beyond the control of man.

The return route runs along a picturesque road through the capital of Montenegro - Podgorica, and then along the shores of Lake Skadar. Enjoying the views, we will gradually descend from the northern mountainous regions to the coast. Arrival at the resorts is expected around 17:00.

Throughout the excursion there will be stops for photography and a lunch break in a cozy national restaurant, where you will be treated to traditional local dishes.

The excursion starts from the pre-designated bus stops you selected when booking. Due to the dense and chaotic development on the coast, as well as the mountainous terrain, buses cannot drive directly to every hotel or villa. Therefore, tourists get off at certain stops. When booking, be sure to choose the stop closest to your place of residence - the site will suggest convenient options.

The excursion is conducted exclusively with an experienced Russian-speaking licensed guide who has good reviews and recommendations from previous tourists.

Arrival times to attractions, duration of stops and return are approximate and may vary: earlier arrival or delay until 3-4 hours. We recommend that you carefully read the “Tourist Guide”, which you will receive along with the voucher by email.
