Skadar Lake

Skadar Lake is the largest and one of the most picturesque lakes in the Balkans! We invite you to plunge into the history of this unique place, surrounded by the natural beauty of an untouched nature reserve and refresh yourself by swimming in the lake, gaining impressions for many years to come!

Even if you are not staying in Budva - don’t worry, the bus will travel along the coast of Montenegro and pick up tourists from many resorts along the way: Budva, Becici, Petrovac, Kotor, Tivat, Rafailovici, Przno, Sveti Stefan, Buljarica, Canj, Sutomore and others. This will give you the opportunity to admire the coastline of Montenegro and its resorts. Don't forget to take comfortable shoes, swimsuits, hats, towels and a good mood!

Program and description of the excursion to Lake Skadar

The excursion will begin in the morning around 9 am. Upon arrival in Virpazar - a fishing village, there will be a little time to walk around it, change into swimsuits and see the local market with crafts from local artisans and souvenirs. We transfer to a boat for a walk along Lake Skadar (the water part of the excursion).

We will begin our acquaintance with Lake Skadar from the once largest market town of those places - the city of Virpazar, from the shores of which on excursionwe will be able to see the main part of the lake, and on the other side in clear weather we will even see Albania – after all, the border of Montenegro with Albania passes through the waters of Lake Skadar! Virpazar is an old fishing village with its centuries-old fishing spirit.

Skadar Lake National Park has been protected by the state since 1983.

Skadar Lake is also called the “Bird's Paradise”, here live herons, ducks, cormorants, pochards, storks, pelicans and even pink flamingos come here in winter. This is one of the few places in the world where pelicans still live in the wild.

A lake with clear water, rich flora and fauna, numbering 264 species of birds, including the rare Dalmatian Dalmatian pelican, as well as about 40 species of fish. The most valuable are Skadar carp, trout and bleak.

A boat ride on an excursion will allow you to enjoy the beauty that opens up to your eyes. You can also refresh yourself by swimming in the clear water of the lake.

During the voyage there will be treats from the ship's captain - donuts with honey and homemade cheese. 

There are many beautiful islands and churches on the lake. The guide will definitely tell you about them.

Near Lake Skadar there is the Crnojevica River.

In the 2024 season, it can be visited on individual excursions.

After the boat trip, we will have a fish lunch in Virpazar.Nnational dishes and treats are included in excursion cost!

We will return along the same road along the coast Budva Riviera.

Numerous photo stops and a lunch break are planned throughout the route, which is provided in a national restaurant with famous local food: local grilled fish from the lake, dried meat prosciutto, cheese, fish chorby (Montenegrin soups), kajmak, Shopska salad and much more of your choice!

Excursions in Montenegrostart from the bus stops indicated when booking. Due to the dense, chaotic development on the coast and mountainous terrain, buses cannot travel to every hotel or villa, so tourists go to certain places. When booking, please select the stop closest to your accommodation.

Arrival times at attractions, duration of stops and return are approximate. This may be earlier than indicated on the website, or 3-4 hours late. Be sure to read the “Tourist Memo”, which will be sent to you by e-mail along with the voucher.

In the 2024 seasonthe excursion route will be by bus to Virpazar, then by boat on Lake Skadar and time for lunch. There will be no bus or boat access to the Crnojevica River. We will return by bus along the same road.

At technical stops Montenegrins sell various homemade specialties (honey, wine, brandy...) - our advice: what you tried and liked, buy it, as it happens that they sell/get the wrong product that you liked during tasting.
